Second-Look Audit
A review of your backlog that identifies underpaid or actionable files and estimates the recoverable dollars — before you commit to anything. You see what's actually sitting there, in plain numbers, and decide from there.
Workers' compensation bills get underpaid, denied, and left sitting in lien backlogs every day, in every state. Written Off finds the money providers already earned — and goes back for it.
Contingency-based recovery for medical providers. No recovery, no fee.
The Problem
Bills come back paid under the state fee schedule — a few dollars here, a few hundred there — and nobody has the time to check every remittance against what was actually owed.
Services get bundled into a single line or downcoded to a lower-paying code, quietly shrinking the payment on work that was already performed and documented.
Aging liens sit in the backlog month after month. Without someone actively checking status and pushing them toward resolution, they age out of value — or out of reach entirely.
Most providers write these off for a simple reason: chasing them costs more staff time than it seems worth. Written Off exists to change that math.
Services

Active prosecution of workers' comp liens: status checks, follow-through on dormant files, and steady pressure to move each lien toward resolution instead of letting it sit. In California, that includes EAMS status monitoring through the state filing system.
Payer-level bill review disputes and appeals for underpaid bills — prepared and submitted to the rules and the deadlines, so a valid dispute doesn't die on a technicality. That includes deep experience with California's Second Bill Review (SBR) and Independent Bill Review (IBR) process.
How It Works
Share the files you've written off or set aside — underpaid bills, denied claims, aging liens.
Written Off reviews the files, identifies what's recoverable, and reports the estimated dollars.
You choose which files to pursue. Nothing moves forward without your sign-off.
The recovery work happens, and the fee is a percentage of money actually received.
Written Off works on contingency: the fee comes out of money actually recovered, not out of your operating budget. If nothing comes back, you owe nothing.
About
in workers' compensation, on the payer side
Written Off was founded by Kacey Cavinee, who spent 30 years in workers' compensation working on the payer side of the process.
She knows how bills get underpaid because she has seen exactly how the process works from the inside — where payments get reduced, where files stall, and where money gets left behind. Written Off was built to work the other side of that process: for the providers who did the work and earned the payment.
That experience includes deep familiarity with California's rules in particular — its Official Medical Fee Schedule and the SBR/IBR appeals process providers use to dispute underpayments there.
